Black Wildebeest Taxidermy Shoulder Mount

30 x 29 x 17"

The black wildebeest, also known as the white-tailed gnu, is one of two closely related wildebeest species, the other being the blue wildebeest. It belongs to the Connochaetes genus and the Bovidae family, so yeah, it’s officially part of the cool antelope club. These animals are native to southern Africa, especially South Africa, where they roam open grasslands and plains.

They’ve got a pretty distinctive look too. Dark brown to black bodies, a long white tail that kind of looks like a horse’s tail, and a shaggy mane that gives them a slightly dramatic, windblown vibe. Their curved horns add to that tough, ready-to-throw-down appearance. They’re built stocky and muscular, especially in the front, which makes them look heavier than they actually are.

But don’t let that chunky build fool you, these guys can move. Black wildebeest can hit speeds up to about 80 kph, which is around 50 mph. That is a lot of animal moving very fast. They are also quick to turn and surprisingly agile, which makes them tough targets for predators like lions and hyenas. When they get going as a group, it is basically a stampede of muscle and horns, and that is not something most predators want to deal with head-on.

They are also known for some quirky behavior. Black wildebeest will sometimes run in circles or suddenly take off as a group for no obvious reason, almost like they forgot what they were doing and hit reset. It might look chaotic, but it helps them stay alert and ready to react if something actually does show up.

So yeah, big, fast, a little weird, and not something you want charging in your direction.

Important Shipping Info For Oversized Items:

Please Note: Oversized items like this do not qualify for the free shipping discount.

For more information about our shipping policies, please see our shipping page.

Please note:  We will do our best to ship via conventional methods, but some mounts are just too big for carriers to handle safely.

For Conventional: We will work to find you the best shipping rate and invoice you once it’s determined. Our in-house rates are typically lower than what you’d find at your local shipping store, as we regularly send out packages. Once your item is packed and ready, we’ll invoice you for the shipping. If the cost is more than you’re comfortable with, you can cancel your order at no charge.

Non-Conventional: If we are unable to ship via conventional methods, we recommend a taxidermy-specific carrier called Trophy Transport. Once purchased, we ask that you reach out to them to arrange shipping and payment. After that is done, we will work out the logistics and pickup with them.

We can also work with another carrier of your choice, but for taxidermy, they are generally the best and most affordable option since they do not need to crate the piece which is expensive.
