Blesbok Taxidermy Shoulder Mount
35 x 12 x 19"
The blesbok, sometimes spelled blesbuck, is an antelope native to South Africa. It’s easy to recognize thanks to the bold white stripe running down its face and across its forehead. That marking is actually where the name comes from. “Bles” is an Afrikaans word for a blaze, like the white marking you might see on a horse.
These guys are pretty social and tend to stick together in groups. You’ll usually find herds made up of females and their young, along with younger males, plus separate bachelor groups of older males. Then you’ve got the territorial rams, who claim their own patch of land and take it very seriously.
When mating season rolls around, those rams don’t mess around. They’ll clash horns and fight pretty aggressively to win control of territory and the females that come with it. It’s all about showing strength and dominance. And honestly, if your name basically meant “blaze face,” you might feel a little pressure to prove yourself too.
