Red Lechwe Taxidermy Shoulder Mount
50 x 32 x 24
Here’s a mount we wouldn’t mind being stuck in the mud with. Not literally, obviously, but you know, figuratively. Maybe not even that. This intro is starting to not make any sense. Anyways, red lechwe are specially adapted to swampy environments. Unlike many antelopes, they are often found standing in shallow water or mud, which helps them escape predators that struggle in wetlands. See where we were going there?
Not only do they hang out in wetlands, but they seem to almost have magical water-walking abilities. Their long, slightly curved hind legs are one of their most unusual features. These legs give them a distinctive bounding gait that looks a bit like they are bouncing over the water’s surface when they run. Not only can they bound across swampland, but they are also excellent swimmers. They will enter deeper water when threatened and can move through flooded areas with surprising ease compared to most other hoofed animals. They stick to these watery hideaways because of their diet. They mainly eat aquatic grasses, which gives them a niche advantage since few large herbivores can feed comfortably in flooded areas.
The horns on this guy are huge, and if you’re looking for a mount to tie everything together in your collection with a swampy vibe, this is the one for you.
Important Shipping Info For Oversized Items:
Please Note: Oversized items like this do not qualify for the free shipping discount.
For more information about our shipping policies, please see our shipping page.
Please note: We will do our best to ship via conventional methods, but some mounts are just too big for carriers to handle safely.
For Conventional: We will work to find you the best shipping rate and invoice you once it’s determined. Our in-house rates are typically lower than what you’d find at your local shipping store, as we regularly send out packages. Once your item is packed and ready, we’ll invoice you for the shipping. If the cost is more than you’re comfortable with, you can cancel your order at no charge.
Non-Conventional: If we are unable to ship via conventional methods, we recommend a taxidermy-specific carrier called Trophy Transport. Once purchased, we ask that you reach out to them to arrange shipping. After that is done, we will work out the logistics and pickup with them.
We can also work with another carrier of your choice, but for taxidermy, they are generally the best and most affordable option since they do not need to crate the piece which is expensive.
